If you ever find yourself with some free time with your little ones on a Wednesday morning, I’d like to let you in on a little secret. Whole Foods on McEwen in Franklin has a delightful FREE event every Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 called The Children’s Hour where they bring in local musicians for a good old fashioned sing-a-long.

I took my 2 daughters there this morning (ages 16 months and 3 ½) and we had such a fun time! Jacob Johnson was the musician of the day, and he was thoroughly entertaining with a solid 45 minutes of puppets, singing, dances, and playing various instruments. The last 15 minutes, he invited kids to come play with his upright bass (or really big guitar as my tot called it) for a little hands on music exploration.

My kids have vastly different personalities and it’s rare that we can find an activity that they are both 100% on board with. This was one of those magical times. Mr. Johnson did a fantastic job of engaging all the kids there by being energetic and silly yet not scary or overwhelming to those who may be a little more reserved. My little dancer jumped right into the action, and my cautious observer was completely comfortable and also dancing by about 15 minutes into it.

The event is held in the Whole Foods community room which is bright and cheery and just the right size to fit the 20 or so kids who were there plus room to dance and some seating for adults. When you enter the store, make a quick right and it’s at the end of a little dining area. If you want to bring some snacks there are even a few tables.

I don’t usually shop at Whole Foods, which is probably why I hadn’t heard of this event before. But if you do shop there regularly it might be worth it to schedule grocery time on a Wednesday morning if you can, and kill two birds with one stone. They offer an extra discount to those who are Amazon Prime members which is appealing to a moms always on the lookout for ways to stay on budget.

I have no idea if other Whole Foods around the Nashville area have a Children’s Hour or sometime similar. I didn’t find anything about it through a quick Google search. Anyone have any info about this or maybe some other free activity hidden gem? Tell me about it! hannah@motherhoodinnashville.com
